Tides – Tides play an important part of how the flats fish in Honduras. Higher tides associated with the full and new moons mean deeper water and often there are more permit found on the flat instead of around the deeper edges. If there is some wind to push these tides a little deeper, you’ll have landed in permit heaven! These same higher tides make it more difficult to spot bonefish unless they are tailing. Lower tides make it easier to spot those bones, but also easier for them to spot you. The lower tides also push the tarpon out of the depths of the mangroves and it into the deeper holes where they are fishable.

Roatan, Honduras Fly Fishing Report 1.10.07
Weather on Roatan was fantastic the first few weeks of December 2006!
Temperatures were in the 80's and easterly trade winds brought prime conditions to the flats. Angler Ben Khan from England was able to take advantage of this and land his first permit of about 10 lbs along with numerous bonefish. Day fisherman Eric and Lars Lider also joined in the
fun and boated a 40 lb. tarpon from the lagoons. Fishing was excellent with many shots at both permit and bonefish, not to mention the jacks and triggers.
The week of Christmas was beautiful with calmer seas and bright skies.
Tony Hughey from Washington, D.C. was able to take advantage and landed many bonefish up to 6 lbs. A cold front arrived on the 27th and brought
cooler temps, which slowed the fishing at the end of the year.
The New Year has been gorgeous! Temps are back in the 80's and the easterly trade winds are back. These winds are pushing more water on to the flats and the permit are loving it! Many schools of tailing fish are receiving little pressure...
